We find what is buried underground so crews can dig safely. Level A is built on one idea: people helping people. If you want a career, not just a job, here is what the work is really like.
What our field crews do
Our crews locate underground utilities (telecom, electric, cable TV, gas, water and sewer lines) so engineers and contractors know what is below the surface before they dig. We use professional field equipment, including utility detection instruments, vacuum excavation equipment and GNSS units.
You do not need to know this work yet. We train the right person.
On a typical job
- Search a designated area and mark utility locations accurately
- Document findings and photograph each locate
- Create electronic field sketches and apply basic field measurements and math
- Review jobsite safety every day and act immediately on any issue
- Communicate clearly with clients, contractors and teammates
- Cross-train, so the whole crew gets stronger
What the job is like
- Field-based and on the road; this is not a remote or desk position
- A lot of walking, for long periods, across all kinds of terrain, including uneven ground and water
- Regular out-of-town travel, about 13 weeks a year
- Physical, outdoor, hands-on work, and no two days look the same
- Pay: Utility Locator (SUE Field Technician), $22-$34 per hour
