Working in New Jersey: what to expect
- New Jersey One Call. New Jersey’s Underground Facility Protection Act requires a one-call request before excavation; design-stage requests are also available for planning. Level A performs its own excavation under a valid ticket and designates the private and unmarked lines the one-call marks do not include.
- NJDOT and county roadways. Test holes in state or county rights-of-way require a road-opening permit and traffic control that meets the agency’s requirements. We coordinate traffic control alongside the excavation on roadway work so a single scope covers both.
- Utility-territory work. Much of New Jersey’s transmission, distribution, and gas-main investment runs through dense suburban corridors. Utility engineering consultants use us to collect QL-A/QL-B data along those corridors ahead of design.
New Jersey Project Experience
Transmission right-of-way utility investigation — Middlesex County. For a national engineering firm designing upgraded transmission structures, Level A collected Quality Level A and Quality Level B utility data along a 12-mile right-of-way section, giving the designer confirmed horizontal and vertical utility positions at each proposed structure location.

Can Level A clear boring locations the day before drilling?
Often, yes, if the one-call ticket has been placed and the locations are staked. Send the boring plan with your request and we will confirm scheduling.
Does Level A provide traffic control for New Jersey roadway test holes?
We coordinate traffic control alongside our excavation on roadway work so that one scope covers the test holes and the maintenance-of-traffic requirement.
How does Level A's designating differ from the New Jersey One Call marks?
One-call marks the public utility owners’ facilities to the extent of their records and the service point. Our designating covers private-side lines, unmarked or abandoned lines, and the on-site network, and produces a mapped deliverable rather than paint alone.
