Maryland is the southern end of our footprint, roughly two to three hours from our Pennsylvania office. That shapes how we work here: locating is scheduled a few days out, and test-hole projects are typically planned as full-day or multi-day mobilizations so a crew stays on site. Working in Maryland: what to expect
- Miss Utility (Maryland 811). Maryland’s one-call law requires a ticket before excavation, including vacuum excavation. Our designating covers the private-side and unmarked lines the one-call marks do not.
- MDOT SHA, Baltimore City, and county roadways. Test holes in a state highway require an MDOT SHA utility permit and traffic control to SHA standards; Baltimore City and the counties have their own permit processes. We coordinate traffic control alongside the excavation on roadway work.
- Secure and critical facilities. A defining feature of our Maryland work is secure sites: power generation, federal and military installations, and research campuses. Our field staff are accustomed to badging, escort, and site-specific safety training requirements, and we plan the extra time those requirements add.
- Water and sewer utilities. Main-replacement and rehabilitation design in WSSC territory (Montgomery and Prince George’s counties) and on Baltimore City’s water and wastewater systems is a recurring source of test-hole and designating scopes in the region.
Washington, D.C.
The District of Columbia is part of the same scheduled territory as Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. D.C. work follows DC Water and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) for permits and restoration in the public space, and Miss Utility for one-call. Federal campuses inside the District carry the same access and badging requirements as the federal facilities we serve in the Maryland suburbs.
