PECO Gas Main Replacements

Level A provided vacuum excavation services to collect underground utility information for the planning and design of a gas main installation.

  • Date: August-September, 2019
  • Location: Bucks County, PA
  • Project Type: Air Vacuum Excavation

the problem

PECO had plans to install hundreds of linear feet of a new gas main, spreading across multiple roadways and intersections. Before the plans could be solidified and work could begin, existing utilities needed to be identified and depths confirmed.

our solution

Level A performed hundreds of test holes along the path of the proposed gas main, primarily in the roads and intersections. We performed the test holes on utilities and utility crossings to confirm the depth of the underground infrastructure. This information was vital in the designing of the gas main to ensure that no utility interferences or utility damage occurs during the installation. The core bore process was used to remove and restore the asphalt, in accordance with PennDOT standards.

outcome

While this is a massive project that is still in progress, having exact information on the underground utilities is an essential part of the planning and execution of the project, and will the project move along smoothly.
